Sending with Apple iCloud Mail

If you use an iPhone or a Mac, you may already have an iCloud Mail address ending in @icloud.com (or @me.com or @mac.com). Tesria can send its email through it. Like Gmail, Apple does not let other programs use your Apple Account password: you make an app-specific password, a separate password for Tesria alone, which you can delete at any time without touching your account.

Before you start

• iCloud Mail turned on for your Apple Account, so you have an iCloud email address.

• Two-factor authentication on your Apple Account. Apple only offers app-specific passwords when it is, and most accounts have it already.

Step 1: Make an app-specific password

1. Go to account.apple.com and sign in.

2. In Sign-In and Security, choose App-Specific Passwords.

3. Choose to generate one, name it Tesria, and copy the password Apple shows.

Step 2: Fill in Tesria’s email settings

Choose Admin, then Settings. In the Email section, choose your provider under Provider: that fills in the server for you. Then fill in the rest:

Step 3: Turn it on and send a test

Choose Save mail settings, turn on Send email, then choose Send test email to me and check that it arrived, including in the spam folder. The full walk-through is on Email (SMTP).

If the test fails

• The sign-in is refused. Check that the username is the whole address, not only the part before the @, and that the password is the app-specific one. Your Apple Account password does not work here.

• It worked, then stopped. Changing or resetting your Apple Account password deletes every app-specific password. Make a new one and enter it in the Password box.
