Sending with Fastmail

Fastmail is a paid email service, often with your own domain. Tesria sends through it with an app password: Fastmail never accepts your everyday password from another program, and an app password can be limited to email and deleted whenever you like.

Before you start

A Fastmail plan above Basic. The Basic plan does not include sending from other programs, so it cannot make app passwords.

Step 1: Make an app password

1. In Fastmail, open Settings, then Privacy & Security.

2. Under Connected apps & API tokens, choose Manage app passwords and access, then New app password.

3. Name it Tesria, leave the access as mail (the default covers it), and copy the password it shows.

Step 2: Fill in Tesria’s email settings

Choose Admin, then Settings. In the Email section, choose your provider under Provider: that fills in the server for you. Then fill in the rest:

Port 587 with STARTTLS works too.

Step 3: Turn it on and send a test

Choose Save mail settings, turn on Send email, then choose Send test email to me and check that it arrived, including in the spam folder. The full walk-through is on Email (SMTP).

If the test fails

• The sign-in is refused. Check that the username includes the domain, and that the password is an app password. Your Fastmail password, and its two-step code, do not work here.
