How live content works

Looked up when the page opens. Add a page, tick off a task or attach a file, and every block that should show it does, the next time the page is opened. While editing, ↻ beside a block’s name looks it up again. For people reading without signing in, a result can be up to a minute old.

Only what you may see. A page you cannot open never appears in a list, and is not counted either: not in how many pages carry a label, and not in how many edits someone has made. Two people can open the same page and see different lists.

Published pages only. Lists of pages leave out drafts and pages in the trash.

Readers see just the result. In the editor, a block has a dashed outline with its name above it. On the published page both are gone, and the list or table reads as part of the page.

A snapshot in an export. A PDF, a Markdown file or a website made from a space shows what each block showed at the moment it was exported.

One level deep. A live block inside a page that Include page or Excerpt include is showing is not looked up; it says Shown on the page instead. That is what stops two pages from including each other forever.
