Sending with Proton Mail

Proton Mail can send Tesria’s email, with two conditions: a paid Proton plan, and an address on your own domain, such as wiki@yourcompany.com. A plain @proton.me address cannot be used by other programs, on any plan.

Instead of a password, Proton gives you an SMTP token: a long code that lets one program send from one address. Your Proton password never goes into Tesria.

What about Proton’s encryption? Email Tesria sends through Proton is delivered like any other email. Proton’s end-to-end encryption applies between Proton users, not to messages sent through a program this way.

Before you start

A paid Proton Mail plan with your own domain added to it and verified.
An address on that domain for Tesria to send from.

Step 1: Make an SMTP token

In Proton Mail, open Settings, then All settings, then IMAP/SMTP.
Under SMTP tokens, choose Generate token, pick the address Tesria will send from, and name it Tesria.
Copy the token Proton shows.

Step 2: Fill in Tesria’s email settings

Choose Admin, then Settings. In the Email section, choose your provider under Provider: that fills in the server for you. Then fill in the rest:

Step 3: Turn it on and send a test

Choose Save mail settings, turn on Send email, then choose Send test email to me and check that it arrived, including in the spam folder. The full walk-through is on Email (SMTP).

If the test fails

The sign-in is refused. Check that the username is exactly the address you made the token for, and that it is on your own domain. Your Proton password does not work here.
